From a bored 12-year-old in Tokyo to an app helping families everywhere! Here's my story.
Summer 2025, Tokyo. Stuck at home while Dad worked. I just wanted Minecraft and YouTube, but Dad kept saying: "Build good habits!" (He's obsessed with Atomic Habits). Chores? They felt boring and pointless.
But then I thought—what if chores weren't chores? What if they were quests? Like in video games! Parents assign quests, kids earn points, and points unlock rewards (screen time, games, treats). Suddenly, chores became an adventure.
On weekends, Dad teaches me coding. He builds apps for grown-ups, so I asked—why not build one for kids? I sketched out the idea and built Pointly myself, while Dad gave me advice and direction. Now kids level up their habits, parents stop nagging, and everyone wins.

Yes — 100% free, forever. No hidden fees and no credit card required. We believe every family should have access to great tools without spending a dime. I'm the only developer building this app, with help from my dad, so we're keeping it free for everyone. That said, we'll eventually need to find a way to cover the infrastructure costs to keep it running smoothly.
Parents set up quests with point rewards (like "Make Bed = 10 points"). Kids complete them, snap a proof photo, and submit. Parents review and approve, then points are instantly added. Kids can redeem points for rewards you set up.
Super safe. The kid portal is a controlled environment with no social features, external links, or ads. Kids only see their own quests and rewards. Parents have complete control over all content and interactions.
Everything. Parents can use any computer, tablet, or phone with a browser. Kids get a PWA app that works on iPhones, iPads, and Android devices. Add it to the home screen for an app-like experience. Works offline too.
